Proffessional practice:
Graduated in Architecture at the University
of Malta. He continued his studies in Italy at the Milan Polytechnic and
also worked as a student - architect in the studio of Italian architect
Gio Ponti. He is also a sculptor, photographer, poet, painter and author
of several books. His work has been extensively published in leading architectural
journals, while a number of books have been written on his work. He has
travelled, lectured and exhibited in North and South America, Europe,
the Middle Far East and the ex - USSR.
He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Malta having acted as
Dean of the Faculty of Architecture between 1987 and 1988, a Professor
(Honoris Causa) at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and an Hon.
Visiting Fellow at the University of Bath, England. He also was a professor
at the International Academy of Architecture before being appointed Academician
in 1991. He is also a professor (Honoris Causa) at the Institute of Advanced
Studies at the University of New York, USA. In 1993 the Government of
Malta appointed him Officer of The Order of Merit. In 1995 he was appointed
a Professor (Honoris Causa) at the University of the Republic of Georgia.
In 1999 he was appointed Hon Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
His buildings and designs have earned hil numerous International Awards,
including the Interarch '83, '85 and '91 and 2000 Laureate Prozes and
two Commonwealth Association of Architects Regional Awards in 1085 and
1987. Other awards include Gold Medal of the City of Toulouse in 1985,
the "Comite Des Critiques d' Architecture" (C.I.C.A.) Silver
Medal in 1987, the 1988 Georgia, USSR Biennale Laureate Prize and an IFRAA
- AIA Award for Religious Architecture in 1991. In 1996 he was the winner
of the International Proze at the III Architectural Bienal of Costa Rica
and in 2000 he was one of the recipients of the Gold Medal of the Belgrade
Architectural Triennale. He has worked in the capacity of Architectural
Consultant to governmental and private institutions in the following countries:
Yougoslavia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Italy, Argentina, Poland, Bulgaria, the
ex - Soviet Union and his native Malta.
