Born in 1937.

Architectural studies at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm 1958 - 63 with profesor Erik Lundberg as teacher in the history of architecture and the art of landscape gardening. Diploma in architecture, Royal Institue of Technology, Stockholm 1963.

Employment experience:

  • 1961 - 64 - Prof. Erik Lundberg Architects' Office, Stockholm. Building and restoration of churches and other historic buildings
  • 1964 - 65 - Sollentuna municipality (town planning department): Town planning (development of town and buildinng plans) and the restoration of historic buildings
  • K-konsult, Orebro (building and planning consultants): Head of the planning department, but working at the same time with building and restoration projects (churches, historic buildings, etc.)
    During this time general plans were developed for the municipality of Karlskoga and Stora
  • 1965 - 68 - Preparatory work was begun for restoration of Kumla church.
    Teacher at the Technical Grammar School in Orebro.
    Tow architect in the municipalities of Nora, Lindensberg and Ljunarsberg (the first two are historic towns), paraller with employment at K- konsult.

Own architect's Office from September 1968:

Own independent firm, with the office in Kumla in a beautiful building from 1880.
Employees in 1996: 2 architects, 4 building engineers and 1 office worker Main line of work: the restoration of cultural and historic buildings (mainly churches) New churches and chapels, assmebly halls, retreat centres, housing, parish halls, office Buildings, prison buildings and infill buildings in cultural and historic environments. Important Clients are the Church of Sweden (churches, parishes and dioceses) Wasakronan (State Properties) local authorities, companies, private persons etc.

Important projects:

  • Visby Cathedral, restored 1976 - 89 (95, 96)
  • Office building for many of the central institutions of the Church of Sweden in Uppsala
  • Orebro County Insurance Company (offices, shops and housing accomodation) in the centre of Orebro.
  • Kumla church rebuilt after fire 1969 - 72 and further restored in 1992
  • Retreat Centre for the Sigtuna Foundation, renewal and restoration 1988 - 92, 1999
  • Church of Sweden Education Centre, Sigtuna renewal and restoraiton 1984 - 93
  • Sigtuna St. Mary's Church, restored 1970 - 72, additions made in 1993 - 94
  • Askersund Church for the rural parish, restored 1970 - 72, additions made in 1993 - 94
  • Glanshammar Church, restored 1969 - 76, 1999
  • Orebro Olaus Petri Church, restored 1985 - 87
  • Ransater Church new, reconstructed 1984 - 85
  • Katzow Kirche (Greifswald, Germany) rebuilt 1990 - 93 (1st prize in German Architects Competition)
  • Arboga Nikolai Church, restored 1993 - 95
  • Lidkopings Nikolai Church, restored 1992 - 96
  • Ervalla Church, restored 1995 - 97
  • Bergs Church, restored 1994 - 98
  • Stockholm - Oscars church, restored 1996 - 97
  • Umea Church, rebuilt 1989 - 91
  • Renewal of Kumla Prison, new buildings as well as a partial rebuilding 1991 - 93

As well as large number of church restorations, parish halls, offices and housing - all of a very varying kind and size. Large and small buildings in town and countryside.

Some current projects:

Diocese Retreat and Conference centre at Stjarnholm, involving the following projects:

  • The restoration and renewal of the castle and its interior including a new kitchen, restaurant and chapel.
  • The construction of agricultural buildings, renovation of a hotel building for the conference Center. 1989 - still assual!
  • Varberg Church, restoration
  • Harplinge Church, restoration
  • Morbylanga Church, restoration
  • Grava Church, restauration
  • Askersund, housing (part of a block)

  • SAR - The National Association of Swedish Architects since 1963 (Member of the Board 1982 - 92)
  • AI - The Swedish Federation of Architects and Consulting Engineers
  • CAA - The Cathedral Architects' Association, GB
  • ICOMOS - The International Council of Monuments and Sites (former vice - Chairman of the Board for the Swedish section, 1987 - 93)
  • Capellagarden School for Arts and Crafts - Member of the Board
  • Handarbetets Vanner / Licium (textile studio and school) Member of the Board
  • UIA WP "Places of Worship" member since 1995

Previous engagements:

Took part in Olof Hartmann' s "Conferences for the Artists" at the Sigtuna Foundation 1964 - 72. The conferences were meant for architects, artists, authors, composers and theologians And dealt with religious, liturgical and similar complex questions of form. They were to become a forerunner in new thinking in lithurgy and the formation of space for worship within the Church of Sweden. These ideas have been generally accepted and are now established (even internationally).

Other distinctions:

  • Awarded "The Stone Prize" of 1986 for swedish Architect. Award for the restoration of Visby Cathedra
  • Appointed Cathedral Architect of Visby in 1985
  • Awarded "The Umespiran Prize: of 1992 for the rebuilding of Umea Rural Parish Church after fire damage (see above)
